Sometimes, but not automatically — Subway is one of the more common participants in the federal Restaurant Meals Program (RMP), which lets certain SNAP recipients buy hot restaurant food with EBT. That program only exists in nine states/areas (Arizona, California, Illinois's Cook and Franklin Counties, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Rhode Island, and Virginia), and even there, only individually enrolled Subway locations take EBT — not every Subway, and not every SNAP recipient.
If you're not elderly, disabled, or homeless (the groups RMP is limited to), or your state doesn't run an RMP, Subway won't take your EBT card no matter which location you visit.
What You Can Buy at Subway With EBT
Where it works, RMP-enrolled Subway locations let you order off the regular menu — subs, sides, drinks — the same as any paying customer, with no cold-vs-hot restriction like you'd have at a grocery store. Subway locations that accept EBT have shown up on official RMP restaurant lists in states including Arizona, California, Michigan, Rhode Island, and Virginia, but participation is decided restaurant by restaurant (often by the individual franchise owner), so a Subway a few miles away may not take EBT even in the same city.
There's no way to check in advance other than looking up your state's official RMP participating-restaurant list or calling the specific location — Subway doesn't publish its own national EBT store locator, and there's no EBT option for online Subway orders.
