New York shoppers know Wegmans well — the family-owned chain got its start in Rochester and remains one of the state's most recognized grocery names. Price Chopper, sold under the Market 32 banner in some areas, and Tops Markets, both part of Schenectady-based Northeast Grocery, are also common across Upstate New York. New York operates a SNAP Restaurant Meals Program. Eligible elderly, disabled, or homeless SNAP participants (and their spouses) can use their EBT card to buy prepared meals at participating restaurants statewide.
