Georgia residents who qualify for food assistance receive help through the Georgia Food Stamp Program, the state's name for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Your EBT card works like a debit card at any USDA-authorized retailer nationwide — major grocery chains and big-box stores such as Walmart, Target, Kroger, Costco, Sam's Club, Aldi, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and most local and regional supermarkets, plus many convenience stores and farmers markets. A growing number of retailers, including Walmart.com and Amazon, also accept SNAP EBT for online grocery orders in many areas, though delivery and service fees usually can't be paid with benefits.
SNAP benefits cover food and food-producing seeds or plants, but not hot prepared foods, alcohol, tobacco, or non-food items — some states also restrict specific items like soda or candy, noted below if it applies to Georgia.
Georgia SNAP Income Limits
To qualify for SNAP, a household's gross income normally cannot exceed 130% of the federal poverty level. Georgia's Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility (BBCE) policy keeps this limit at that same federal floor rather than raising it further, unlike many other states that use BBCE to expand eligibility to higher income levels.

EBT Fraud & Card Skimming Protection
Protect your benefits from theft
EBT card skimming, where criminals use hidden devices or cloned card readers to steal card numbers and PINs, has been a persistent problem nationwide, including in Georgia. In response, Congress passed a series of laws allowing states to use federal funds to reimburse SNAP households for benefits stolen this way, but that authority applied only to theft occurring between October 1, 2022, and December 20, 2024, and Congress has not renewed it since that date. That means benefits stolen after December 20, 2024, are generally not eligible for federal replacement funding unless lawmakers act again.
