Mississippi doesn't use a special brand name for its SNAP program; it's simply referred to as SNAP, and it's administered by the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS). The program helps eligible low-income individuals and families afford groceries each month.
Once approved, benefits are loaded onto an EBT card that works like a debit card at grocery stores and other SNAP-authorized retailers across the state.
Mississippi has received USDA approval for a waiver, requested by Governor Tate Reeves, that will bar SNAP benefits from being used to buy candy and certain sugary drinks starting April 1, 2026, making Mississippi one of a growing number of states restricting what SNAP dollars can purchase.

Where You Can Use Your Mississippi EBT Card
Your EBT card works like a debit card at any USDA-authorized retailer nationwide — major grocery chains and big-box stores such as Walmart, Target, Kroger, Costco, Sam's Club, Aldi, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and most local and regional supermarkets, plus many convenience stores and farmers markets. A growing number of retailers, including Walmart.com and Amazon, also accept SNAP EBT for online grocery orders in many areas, though delivery and service fees usually can't be paid with benefits.
SNAP benefits cover food and food-producing seeds or plants, but not hot prepared foods, alcohol, tobacco, or non-food items — some states also restrict specific items like soda or candy, noted below if it applies to Mississippi.
Mississippi SNAP Income Limits
Mississippi follows the standard federal SNAP gross income limit of 130% of the federal poverty level rather than adopting the Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility (BBCE) option that many other states use to raise their thresholds.
Because Mississippi has not adopted BBCE, eligibility is generally tied more closely to the baseline federal income and asset rules, so applicants should check their household's specific income and resource limits carefully when applying.

EBT Fraud & Card Skimming Protection
Protect your benefits from theft
Card skimming has affected Mississippi SNAP households, and following federal guidance, the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) confirms that as of June 30, 2025, it can no longer replace stolen SNAP benefits — even for theft that occurred before the federal cutoff of December 20, 2024. There is currently no state-funded program filling that gap.

Traveling or shopping online?
As of June 11, 2026, Mississippi automatically blocks online and out-of-state EBT transactions by default as a fraud-prevention measure. To shop online or out of state, unlock your card through the ConnectEBT website or app (choose Card, then Lock/Unlock Card, then Unlock My Card) or call the EBT Cardholder Assistance line at 866-512-5087.
